A few months ago a friend of mine, Rebecca, approached me and others with a rather brave idea. She had decided that she wanted to host a market and the location was going to be her home. I imagine her husband’s eyes widened to their full extent when the idea started to become a reality. My eyes will certainly never be the same again. Nevertheless, when Rebecca asked for help with social media and advertising, I jumped right in.
The planning has been relatively easy. Within a week or so we had filled all our stall allocations and started amassing a waiting list. Alongside the launch of the Facebook event, the number of customers grew rapidly and organically. This told us that Grahamstown had been waiting for an event like this, and both creatives and customers were absolutely enthused. In fact, there are plans afoot to make this a monthly event.
It is now a week away and things are really shaping up nicely. We met with stallholders today to allocate space and go through logistics. The diversity of stallholders and their wares is a sight to be seen. The market will feature no less than 7 clothing stalls, 7 shoe and accessories stalls, 2 artists, as well as collectibles, furniture, plants and food. Featherstone Brewery and Fernskloof wines will also make an appearance and for the kids there will be face-painting, toys and sweet treats on sale. The atmosphere is due to be electric.
